Decorating with purple isn’t just for little girl bedrooms!
Dixie Belle Paint Company’s new color Aubergine is a rich dark eggplant. I like to call this color “Purple for Grown Ups.” Painting a piece of furniture with Aubergine is a subtle and elegant way to start decorating with purple in your home–without freaking out your husband!
Decorating with Purple: The Gilded Plum Table

This stately sofa table had deep gouges on the top and was in need of a makeover. But with those carved legs and stylish details, no ordinary color would do.
My mom recently created Five Gorgeous Ways to Glam Up Vintage Mirror Frames.
She used the following products from Dixie Belle Paint Company, the no-VOC chalk-mineral paint we sell at our store All Things New Again in Leesburg, Virginia:
I additionally used Gator Hide, a durable water-resistant polyacrylic sealer to protect the finish on my table.
I camouflaged the damaged tabletop with another product we sell at the store called Saltwash.
Saltwash is a powder additive you mix into the base color and pounce on to create texture. Typically, you paint a second color over it after it dries to create a two-toned look.
For this table, I used Aubergine for both the textured base and the top color. This created a solid color on top with lots of wonderful texture, which I accentuated with the glaze.
Here’s the finished table!
(Makes you want to start decorating with purple, doesn’t it?)
Aubergine is so dark, it almost looks black in some light. It is neutral enough to incorporate into your decor–even if decorating with purple isn’t your usual color palette. The bronze glaze gives it just enough shimmer to be elegant instead of audacious.
A finish this regal needed its own special name. But what?
We asked our Furniture Painting Friday Show friends for help and received so many amazing name suggestions, we couldn’t decide. So we called for a vote and the winner is …
