fish_beforeI like to challenge myself by finding the U-G-L-I-E-S-T item at a yard sale, taking it home and making it look beautiful again. When I spotted this broken umbrella stand shaped like a fish, I knew just what to do …

I’m taking him home and spitting all over him!

What? Spit on that ugly fish? Eeew? Really?

Yes!

Unicorn Spit™ is a non-toxic, water-based, rainbow-colored gel stain. It smells like jasmine, is safe enough to dip your fingers right into the jar, and you can create some beautiful looks with it. We are now carrying the full line of 10 vibrant Unicorn Spit™ colors at our shop, All Things New Again in Leesburg, VA and right here in our online store.

We have been having so much fun “spitting” on just about everything we can find around here because Unicorn Spit™ makes EVERYTHING look pretty!

Remember the garden chairs I painted last week? The seats on both of them feature different techniques using Unicorn Spit™.

Yes, you can create some really beautiful looks on furniture with Unicorn Spit™ … but that’s not all! It also sticks to metal. What does that mean? It means all of those clunky brass candlesticks you have rolling around in the back of a cabinet somewhere are going to look amazing when YOU spit on them!

Unicorn Spit_clunky candlestickWe like spitting on metal so much, we made a new DIY video with lots of ideas for things you can spit on. Take a look!

You can even spit on Leaf. Who is Leaf, you ask? That’s the name Lightning gave to the big ugly fish I showed you earlier. (He’s really into picking interesting names for everything lately!)

Here’s Leaf now all glued back together, bright and colorful with his Unicorn Spit™ makeover. I tucked him into my little herb garden and I think he is actually looking better than the basil!

  1. Hi! I just finished using Unicorn Spit colors on a big Terra Cotta pot which will sit outside. What can I use to seal the pot up with and to bring the colors out? I sealed the pot be for I applied the Unicorn Spit.

    1. Hi Gabriele, You need to seal it with something that is rated for exterior use as the pots will sit in the sun and get water on them. I have not had good luck with clay pots. I tried MinWax Marine Polyurethane, but the Unicorn Spit flaked off after a week or two. I think the problem is I did not seal the inside of the pot first and so the water seeped through and messed it up from the inside. I would try the MinWax Marine again or any other oil-based sealer that is rated for water and UV light. I’m sorry I don’t have a specific recommendation, but I’m still experimenting on clay pots and don’t have a favorite sealer for them yet. ~ Courtney
