Unfussy (yet oh-so-elegant), this modern farmhouse dresser has all the elements of style perfection: clean lines, creamy whites, dreamy neutrals and simple details.

If your dresser doesn’t come with fabulous details, no worries. A modern farmhouse dresser doesn’t need them to look gorgeous.
But you know we love all the little details around here! Now they are easy to add to your painted furniture projects with Wood U Bend appliques.
The scrollwork and keyhole on this dresser Cathy painted look like they have been a part of this piece forever, don’t they? Nope! It’s Wood U Bend.

Modern Farmhouse Dresser

The recipe for the perfect modern farmhouse dresser is simple.
Start with a sturdy dresser and choose a calming color palette of white, grays and other soft neutrals. On this piece, Cathy painted the base with Real Milk Paint Company’s Soft White, quite possibly the most perfect farmhouse white color ever invented.
The nice thing about milk paint is it often chips and cracks when applied over old finishes. Sometimes that happens in dramatic fashion like with this chippy blue dresser Cathy also painted. Sometimes, the look is more subtle like here.

It’s just the perfect amount of crackling around the edges that suggests this piece has been around a while. The modern farmhouse style embraces all of the little imperfections that come with living a full life.
The gray on the top, legs and mirror of this piece is Savannah Mist from the Dixie Belle Paint Company. Savannah Mist is a chameleon color that sometimes looks pure gray. But look again and it takes on a bluer hue. It is a soft, dreamy neutral color that fits perfectly with any farmhouse decor color palette.
On top of the Savannah Mist, Cathy brushed on, then wiped back Voodoo Gel Stain in Weathered Gray. This technique ages the piece a bit more and gives it another layer of visual interest.

Wood U Bend Appliques – Video Tutorial
Now comes the really fun part! The finishing touches on this modern farmhouse dresser are the Wood U Bend appliques. They are easy to apply, come in dozens of designs, and can be painted or stained to match your project. Here’s a video tutorial Courtney did over in our All Things New Again Artisans Group to show you how to apply them. (It’s easy!)
